Which card would you rather have...

Posted By: Dave
28 Harrington's Ruth vs. T206 Cobb Red portrait... similar grades (3 range). I've been debating for a few weeks now and it's killing me. Keep in mind I collect Yankee cards but kept a few of my old T206's from other teams.

Any thoughts?
Posted By: Rob Dewolf
I'd go with the Ruth because Harrington's is less mainstream than the T206 and because, well, it's Babe Ruth.

Posted By: peter ullman
i'd rather have the ruth...as it's a pitching/throwing pose(I think), a more obscure set, a scarcer card...and it's not the most common...overprinted pose of card known to man.

pete ullman

Posted By: Dave
The other factor is that I already own a Harrington's Gehrig... I'm thinking of doing a subset of Harrington's Yanks... and to get those 2 out of the way pretty much would make it a slam dunk. The Cobb is just such a recognizable vintage card. In a weird way it's just a classic so that's why I'm having such a hard time letting it go.

But maybe the determining factor here is that I can always go get a Cobb again if I want it right? I mean they always seem to be out there...

Posted By: leon
I have so many cards that are in my collection, outside of my focus, only because they look cool, that it's not even funny. I see something I like and I buy it. Sounds like the Cobby is doing that to you......regards

Posted By: Harry Wallace (HW)
I would go for the Cobb. If you are going to only have a single T206, the red Cobb is definitely a classic. The Ruth card is definitely rarer, but it is not exactly an attractive card.

Posted By: Dave
Leon you hit it dead on... the Cobb kind of sticks out in my collection, and the Ruth would fit nicely. I'm wrestling with the fact that the Cobb is one of those cards everyone appreciates (including myself) as "a classic" vintage card.

True collectors understand the rarity of the Ruth, but from a beauty standpoint the Cobb is above the Ruth.

I guess I need to decide what I would appreciate more myself, and being a die hard Yanks guy I don't think you can go wrong with a Ruth... who knows, you may see Mr Cobb on the BST block shortly!

Posted By: Anthony S.
You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a red Cobb on Ebay. I'd get the Ruth and then grab the Cobb at your convenience at a later date.
