Posted By: <b>Marc S.</b><p>It is by far one of the toughest cards from the E90-1 set. Perhaps not the absolute toughest, but definitely in the top 5 or 10....and that is a set that is pretty easy to put 80% together, but the path to completion can be a long, arduous and expensive task.

Posted By: <b>Frank Wakefield</b><p>It is a difficult E90-1... there are several more difficult, but this one is not a common, as mentioned above.<br /><br />And, Jerry Upp is a bit of an obscure player, in 1909 he won 2 games and lost 1 for Cleveland, appearing in 7 games, starting 4, completing 2. The lefty had a 1.69 ERA. And that was his only year in the majors. This is his only card.

I didn't want to post the question on the board because I was the underbidder and didn't know whether the winner is a board member I (and the fact I cost him some money). I knew the Upp was tougher than a common, but I figured it was a case of two people who wanted a card badly each putting in a high bid, figuring he'd be covered.

Still surprises me how healthy a rarity of a common player can go for!<br /><br />Rob, I think you cost him (if I'm reading the bid history correctly) around $400 ... since the 3rd highest bid was like $134. Happens to me all the time but you would never know it from looking at the bid history.<br /><br />The good news is that it is one less person you have to compete with when this card shows up again.

But I'd not thoguth it through to the point where that was happening to others. I'd think a few bids never registered for Upp.<br /><br />And there is no shame in being the underbidder. Whoever won it should look in the mirror and complain, 'cause it was he that bid in that higher amount.

Jerry Upp protrudes a bit beyond the border on his E90-1, too.<br /><br />Here's my Upp card.
