V.O. Hammon PC date
Posted By: Glen V
Any ideas why this V.O. Hammon postcards was given an issue date of 1906? There is a line at the bottom which reads: "The Cubs ~ Pennant Winners 1907". A 1907 or 1908 date would make more sense. Does anyone have this postcard with a 1907 cancellation on the back?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140179165500&ssPa geName=STRK:MEDW:IT&ih=004

V.O. Hammon PC date
Posted By: Robert S
V.O. Hammon issued postcards featuring both Chicago World Series contenders in 1906 -- and wound up issuing variations of both the Sox and Cubs cards.

After the series concluded, a rare version of the White Sox card was issued with a red overprint proclaiming the team World Champions. As far as the Cubs were concerned, when the team won the 1907 pennant, Hammon issued a variation of the Cubs card with a print line denoting its 1907 league victory.

Here are three examples...sorry if the scans are too wide.

Sox w/overprint:

1906 Cubs:

1906 Cubs w/1907 addition. Note that SGC listed it as 1907 at the request of the submitter:

Here is a 1906 White Sox postcard postdated Oct. 8. just before the start of the World Series.

V.O. Hammon PC date
Posted By: Lyman
The V. O. Hammon postcard example on the Old Cardboard website at http://localhost/bbcards/pc/hammon/hammon.asp?cardsetID=1109 includes the label "Pennant Winners 1907." It was mailed October 9, 1907, the opening day of the 1907 World Series. The cubs played their final season game on October 7, just two days earlier, although they had cinched the National League pennant somewhat earlier.

From the above thread, it is apparent that the postcards were issued in 1906 then "updated" and reissued again before the 1907 World Series. Other Hammon cards are reported to have been dated as late as 1909.

Lyman
