PSA slabs / holograms

It seems like the lower serial numbered cards have the holograms and the higher numbers do not. Were holograms something PSA had on cards graded before a certain date?<br /><br />Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Markel</b><p>I couldn't give you exact dates, but the oldest slabs - circa 2000 and older had a PSA hologram, then they switched to the CU hologram for a couple of years, then they dropped the foil hologram completely, and then had some gimmick that used a plastic viewing decoder. I don't know if the slabs made today work with the decoder - it just seemed to die off with no mention.

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>Not sure if you are familiar with the WIWAG (When It Was a Game)scandal but you can google it and see a lot of stuff.....it had to do with what you are talking about. Also, always be very apprehensive of holders with frosted sides....It could mean they were cracked and put back together. I have bought at least one card this way, inadvertently....
