Supplements and Premiums....great display pieces

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
Over the last year or so, I have seen that magazine supplements/premiums have finally started to command much higher prices. They make awesome display pieces, which compliment cards very nicely.

I have a new curio cabinet with the top shelve featuring a Chief Meyers M101-2, a Chief Meyers M113, and a Chief Meyers Philadelphia Evening Times Supplement. It makes for an great display.

I know that several of the Boston newspapers, the Boston Herald and Boston Post, also issued supplements which are rarely seen.

Lets see your favorite pre-war supplements and premiums.

Patrick

Supplements and Premiums....great display pieces

Posted By: Lyman
In 1889 a news weekly called "The Stage" printed a series of "supplements" in their regular weekly issue. A total of fourteen players were printed as part of the series in 9 x 12-inch format. The Keefe below is an example.

Although The Stage was primarily a publication for theater fans, they occasional ran sports-related pieces. We have an article on the fourteen-supplement set in queue for publication in Old Cardboard magazine sometime in 2008.

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
Lee,

I never get tired of seeing your display room. To date, I have only seen the Meyers Philadelphia Evening Times Supplement twice. JC scored the 1st one, and I was lucky to grab the 2nd one from Lew Lipset on eBay earlier this year. If I see another, I'll give you the heads-up.

Here's another supplement that you should recognize Lee....it's the Ira Thomas I got from you.

Patrick
