Posted By: T206Collector
When I watched the Mastro DVD about the Lionel Carter collection, I thought it was so funny whenever they said that his cards were always pristine.

Posted By: dennis
the cards he purchased himself, he kept in pristine condition.remember this man purchased 1930's cards at the candy store,so he kept these in perfect condition. of course, he like all collectors wanted the nicest cards he could find, but back when the bulk of his collecting was done it was thru the mail in trades so he took what he could get.

Posted By: steve yawitz
I certainly marvel at others' collections, but your Plank, Paul, might be the only card that really gives me a genuine sense of envy. Taking a step back in terms of T206 volume to land that card was pure genius. I'm jealous of your hobby savvy.

http://imageevent.com/yawie99

Posted By: T206Collector
Thanks for the compliments. It was very hard to part with 400 T206 cards to make a run at, and ultimately score, the Plank. I started out by selling about 10 cards to get a Magie. The strangest part is that I never really miss the ones that are gone. My collecting interests dramatically changed in April. Now I spend most of my time saving and trading for pre-war autographed cards.

Mastro had some of Carter's collection graded by PSA if there was a relevant PSA Set Registry population issue. But otherwise, the bulk of the collection was SGC graded.

Posted By: Gilbert Maines
Tbob's example shows damage common throughout card history, however, Paul's is typical of creasing attributable to being inadvertently left in clothing destined for the washing machine. But that card comes from the pre-washing machine era. Which leaves it as one of the rare scrubbing board cards.
