What is considered "high grade"?

Posted By: Dave F
Just curious on what board members think as far as what would be "high grades" for the following...

Pre 1900 cards...such as N172's, N300's, N28's

1909-1915 cards...T206's, E145's..

1930-1940 cards....Goudey's, Diamond Stars, Playball's

My thoughts...

Pre 1900- PSA 5 or SGC 60
1909-1915- PSA 7 or SGC 84?
1930-1940 PSA 8 or 88?

Posted By: leon
I think you have to go by series a little bit more than date of mfg. There are some series that are known for more high grade cards and some where high grade is very tough....Any cards that came on thinner paper stock ie...some T216's, T213-1, Derby Cigar etc....are going to be much tougher to find high grade...while N28, N29 and any of the WG game cards etc...will be a little easier to find high grade...

Posted By: Dave F
Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of the main issues...I know like many of the caramel cards in 5's or some of the T's would be extremely high grade in 5's.

But I would think Josh you see so many T206's in 5's that I'd have a hard time personally saying those are high grade.

Posted By: Steve Murray
I think that Bruce has pretty well defined the term "High Grade" on their so-called toughest wantlist. As an example for e99 and e100 issues they would be happy with Psa 5's whilst with other more mainstream issues they are looking for 7's and 8's.
