1916 m101-4 Sport News vs. Herpolshimers

Posted By: steve
On the 1916 m101-4 card backs - do they read specifically as Sporting News as opposed to Herpolshimers do distinct the two?

On ebay, there is a nice Lajoie that PSA has labeled Sporting News, but the back reads Herpolshimers - is this mislabeled by PSA?

Also, according to PSA pop numbers, the Sporting News seems more available than the Herpolshimers - does Herpolshimers carry a price premium, or is there no price premium for Herpolshimers?

Thanks, Steve

Posted By: Paul
I think the grading companies used to refer to all of these cards generically as "Sporting News" cards, regardless of their backs. Either that or they just goofed.

Posted By: Todd Schultz
PSA was just sloppy. It is true that the grading companies used to lump most or all m101s together, but here the two cards with the nearest serial numbers were properly labeled (they were part of the same auction)and this one was not.

All ad backs are scarcer than The Sporting News, and Herpolsheimer is no exception, although it is not one of the more difficult backs.
