Posted By: leon
A dealer had just picked up a beat up Cobby towards the end of the show, knew I had an idea about pricing, and asked me what I thought......I told him 4k-6k as it was really in poor shape and I don't think he believed me...by the look I got. He had a 1929 Star Player Gehrig in a PSA 1 holder, that looked nice, for $9500.....I told him I have seen 3-4 sell in the last year or two and it is a $3500-$4500 card.....not sure he believed me on that either. I didn't make an offer on either card as I wasn't interested in them........

Posted By: Chris Bland
I didnt see any other than the Gehrig (the exact card I once owned) that was way overpriced at $9500 and I was looking pretty hard. I asked every dealer I talked to if they had any or knew of any around and no one had one. I wasnt there for the last day and a half of the show so I guess that is when the Cobb showed up...

Posted By: Marty
I just became aware of this thread.
Leon, I did not doubt your information for a minute. That is why I asked you. I believe that I told you that I did not know the market on this issue. I had no reason to doubt what you said. What I do know about these cards is that this is the only Cobb card that SGC has graded while PSA has graded 2. I am quite sure that there are more raw SPC cards than graded. I probably have these two cards "priced to keep". Being the part time dealer that I am, I like to have material that will get noticed and bring me a little attention. I do not mind owning either of these two. I need a couple of cards to keep my 10 priced to keep Rice Stix cards company any way. I have a bit of a different type of business model. I do not have the finanical resources of the big boy dealers, and I do not do this full time. For that reason, I do not have to have all of the turns on my inventory that most of the others have. This may change at some point, but for the present, I price my cards based upon a combination of several things, what I paid, what others are selling the same card for, how many I see availible and how much I like to be the owner of the card. This may put me above the price of the market place, so I need a bit a help. What did everyone else have their SPC Cobb and Gehrig priced at?

Posted By: leon
You were very nice and had some great cards. I could see the Cobb going for more than 6k if 2 diehard Cobby collectors wanted it. The Gehrig card has had multiple sales in the last few years, besides the one I bought...and I have tracked them a little bit ....I apologize if I offended you.....best regards
ps...also I wouldn't have said anything on value if not asked.....

edited spelling....and to add a comment
