Barry Sloate Auctions Closes June 28

Posted By: barrysloate
My online auction will close tomorrow night June 28 at 6:00 PM for qualifying bids. After a three hour "bonus" period (I'm still trying to figure out what the bonus is) a 15-minute clock on the entire auction will begin at 9:00 PM Eastern Time. When that clock ends, the auction will be done.

We will also take phone bids for those who prefer the old fashioned way. And we will be around to answer any questions about auction procedure or other related matters. But please don't ask what time the auction will close- because I don't know. This is a new system for me and it will only end when the clock strikes zero.

Thanks to all who have bid so far and good luck!

Posted By: barrysloate
To answer Hal's question, the 15 minute clock will begin at 9:00 PM EST. I believe all a bidder needs to do is refresh the screen to see the status of the clock. If it's running down to zero, simply place a bid and it resets to 15 minutes.

Was that the question you asked?

You can also go to your MyAccount (or if you are a consignor go to the consignor page)page and refresh it to get the current bidding.

Bob Freedman
SimpleAuction

Posted By: barrysloate
The auction officially ended at 11:40, as 15 minutes went by without a bid and it automatically shut off.

The auction as a whole did very well, but there were peaks and valleys. Some cards were spectacular, most went about where I expected, and a few appeared to underperform. I think somebody got a bargain with lot #1- where were you guys?

Posted By: Cat
Barry:

I bought my SGC 40 Joe Jackson card in December for $16K from a very knowledgeable collector who seemingly was not in a rush to sell. I believe we had a recent market spike for that card that is an aberation. There was a lot of pressure on that card at lower grades which translated to higher prices on the mid-grade cards. The card in your auction went for $20K which I believe to be more in line with true market than the $30Kish that the SGC 40 went for in Mastro.
Posted By: barrysloate
There's a good deal of volatility right now and if three similar examples sold for 16K, 20K, and 30K, it's tough to figure what its true value is. I am noticing more volatility with cards now than in the past. Some go crazy, others are flat, and there is no solid explanation for it.

Posted By: barrysloate
Frank- you were successful but we should take the details offline. If the total shows cents then that includes the BP, since the bidding itself was rounded off to the nearest dollar. Let me get all of this cleared up sometime this morning.

And thanks again to all who participated.
