I have one of his cabinet cards so it's interesting to see how people ordered the cards. I'm interested in collecting anything with the name King on it so if you ever think of selling this coupon, please let me know.<br /><br />Question: Was the Western Association as big as the National and American Association in 1889 or was it considered to be a minor league?

Posted By: <b>barrysloate</b><p>The Western League was a step below the other two, although it's interesting to see a pair of Hall of Famers listed, Clark Griffith and Kid Nichols.<br /><br />I wonder if Goodwin kept these cabinets in stock, or if each one was made to order per request.

I'm sure Jay could weigh in on if there are variations to the individual lists themselves. I know there are a number of variations to the mechanical trade card for OJ where they note you can order the cabinets on the back of the trade card. Yours is in very nice shape for the issue.....<br /><br />Think technically its a checklist. The coupons are orange and blue......<br />

I knew it wasn't a coupon but made a mistake. Heck, it says it's not a coupon on it....I think I have a coupon at home laying around somewhere so might try to scan it to my site this evening and post it here. I think $200-$350 would be the current range in value.....Glad a few folks enjoyed it. I do....but then again I love the hobby. It probably shows....

Posted By: <b>Dylan</b><p>Not a collector of OJ cabinets so i dunno. Are the Western league cabinets tougher since the teams are from more obscure areas? Id imagine a lot of people ordered players from their home town teams so the bigger the city the better chance to find players from that team?

Posted By: <b>Jay</b><p>I have never seen a McPhee cabinet. I've always considered this strange since people chose the player they wanted and McPhee was a star for Cinc. Since people did choose who they wanted it should come as no surprise that the most common cabinets are those of Anson and Kelly. Cabinets of players from smaller cities, especially non-stars, tend to be very scarce.

It is a little known fact that Goodwin & Co issued cards in the UK and Australia, different from those in the states. Apparently in Australia there was a program where one could order cabinets similar to what was done here. I have also seen an Old Judge cabinet of an Australian boxer. These cabinets are extremely rare. I have never seen the comparable Australian cabinet checklist, assuming one exists.
