Questions on recent pick-up

Posted By: Anonymous
Is this a Tobin lithograph? Is it meant to depict an actual player, such as Keefe? I'd be interested if anybody has info on the cut corner (scrapbook-related, some form of cancellation).
Thanks,
Pete

Posted By: barrysloate
No. It's an H804-15a Red Border Position Series. It's desirable due to its graphics, but generic.

Posted By: Steve Murray
As Barry says (and he beat me to it word for word) yours is generic. There are some that will have the same picture and down at the bottom have an actual player's name. The "Baby Anson" is an example and is collected as an "Anson".

Posted By: Anonymous
Baby Anson is not considered one of the Tobin series but part of the Baby Talk series EVEN though Tobin also did at least one variant of that series (H804-1B). Tobin was a prolific trade card lithographer. The Anson you meant to refer to has the caption "Oh Come Off" and his last name below it. That would be H804-21 (color) or H804-22 (B&W). Barry correctly identifies your card as H804-15a. I have included seven cards in near mint and better for you to see some of the Red Border Position series. BTW, someone got a great deal on eBay last week scoring not one but TWO Sporting Life trade cards for about 75.00 each. I sold them 225.00 - 300.00 6,7,8 years ago and have no reason to think they shouldn't have appreciated a bit.

PS: Thanks to Frank Keetz for his time and effort to attempt classifying baseball trade cards.........

Posted By: ernest reyes
I was watching that auction for the Sporting Life's and just plain forgot about it. The price was a steal. Lew Lipset sold a large lot of those cards several years ago that went for, if i remember right, over double that price on an individual card basis. It is a set that rarely pops up.

http://dodgersblueheaven.blogspot.com/
http://imageevent.com/ernestreyes
http://mywantlist.blogspot.com/
