Has anyone ever seen a postcard like this one before?

Posted By: neil b. downey
Hi guys, I won a Thomas Downey postcard yesterday that I had never seen before. Has anyone ever seen one like this? Is it part of a set or perhaps a team issued postcard? Any info would be great. Also, I'd like to see if anyone has a trick for removing the tab from the corner. Thanks for your help, Neil

I think the paper will fluoresce.

The clip could be pried off working on both sides at the same time with envelope openers. They have smoothed points, unlike a flat blade screwdriver.

Frank.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I am pretty confident that these were made by Jim Rowe. The seller of these had about 50+ on ebay this week. I emailed the seller to tell him that these were not period and he did not amend his auctions to reflect this. He did have some postcards that were period and very nice, but he had them mixed with a ton of Jim Rowe cards.

Rowe in the 1960-70s took Burke/Brace/Van Oyen and other famous photographers photos and made postcards out of them. This one just looks like it never got stamped on the back with the Kodak postcard format.

Posted By: neil b. downey
I had a feeling that it was not from 1910-11 era. However, at the price that I paid for it ($12.05 plus $2 shipping) it was still worth it to me to get it for my Downey collection. He wanted $50 for it off line but I was smart to hold out and just wait and bid on the postcard instead. Neil

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I didn't even recognize that your name is Downey. Is he related to you? In my opinion you can't go wrong if it's something that you specifically collect. I would guess that this is an unfinished postcard of Jim Rowe's, but the writing is not in Rowe's hand. Rowe used all capital letters.

Posted By: neil b. downey
Tom Downey is a distant relative on my father's side of the family. I thought it was cool to have a relative who played in the early 1900s so I started to collect his cards. The pride of my collection is a PSA 4 NQ T3 Turkey Red card. It's realy nice. Neil
