Bob Feller/Joe Dimaggio questions
Posted By: Paul
The R314C set with DiMaggio and Feller is definitely from 1937 since it includes Doerr. The OPC set was a Canadian issue and presumably sold only in Canada. I would consider the OPC to be Feller's rookie since it is a true card and from the same year as the R314C.

Many great players are missing from the Play Ball sets, including Grove, Mize, Lombardi, Hartnett, Billy Herman, Dizzy Dean, and plenty of others that I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. No one seems to know why. Maybe contractual issues.

Bob Feller/Joe Dimaggio questions
Posted By: PC
It appears the '36 Wide Pen of Feller is the earliest issue, but as noted above his earliest "card" is the '37 OPC.

If you don't have it already, this site is a good resource:

http://members.aol.com/metsbwd/hofers.html

Bob Feller/Joe Dimaggio questions
Posted By: RC
John,

Feller dated it on the lower right, April 30, 1946.
He no hit the Yankees 1-0 on that date.

Met him at a Cincinnati card show in '81. I'm not really into autographs but
couldn't pass it up. He was also quite the talker as I remember.

RC

Bob Feller/Joe Dimaggio questions
Posted By: Dave S
I spent about 20 minutes talking with Feller at an Indians spring training in Florida in 1998 or '99. Very outspoken, very opinionated. Hates Pete Rose passionately, felt that Jackie Robinson was an "average" ballplayer at best, that there were hundreds of better white players that never got a shot in the majors. Also watched him send away countless autograph-seeking kids because they didn't have $15 to pay him! Borderline senility, my wife insisted...and I won't argue with her!
