Posted By: <b>Trae R.</b><p>Take a look at the back of an American Beauty (with frame), Broad Leaf, Cycle or Drum T206 and you will notice a distinct frame (more specifically, the corners) design that they all 4 share.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.mlbvintage.com/misc/americanbeautyframe.jpg"> <img src="http://www.mlbvintage.com/misc/broadleaf.jpg"> <img src="http://www.mlbvintage.com/misc/cycle.jpg"> <img src="http://www.mlbvintage.com/misc/drum.jpg"><br /><br /><img src="http://www.mlbvintage.com/misc/backcorner.jpg"><br /><br />I noticed a very similar design element on the back of an Obak:<br />(notice the little design element in the center of the horizontal rule)<br /><img src="http://www.mlbvintage.com/misc/obakdsgnelement.jpg"><br /><br />So, did they share the same artist, was the Obak artist inspired by the T206 artist or was this design element something common to the period?<br /><br />What do you think?

Posted By: <b>MVSNYC</b><p>this type of artwork/graphics is evident in MANY items from that period (victorian?). so you see similiar scrolls, foliage motifs, etching lines, etc. across the board on many products.

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>Not to hijack the thread (isn't that like saying you don't mean to interrupt when you are interrupting on purpose?)....but there were several issues that have ornate style printing. I believe the AWH/AWA E222 set has some of the most interesting back Art as any series and the fronts correspond to T206. There were so few cards printed, in E222, and so many different type set designs, it makes one wonder if they were testing the whole time they made them?......regards<br /><br /><br /><img src="http://luckeycards.com/pe222awa.jpg"><br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1173886392.JPG">

Posted By: <b>Dylan</b><p>I know E222 is printed with both A.W.H. and A.W.A. but i wonder how many distinct backs there are if you include the ornate decor? Also does anyone have a complete set put together? As far as i know only 12 cards are known of, so even though there extremely tough finds a set of 12 sounds attainable.

This can become a general back art thread. Mr.Sarno pretty much summed up my "wonderings" anyway.

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>Thanks for posting the Guineens.....I wonder if, after printing the wrong player (assuming it's wrong on the E222) the printing press folks doing the AWA's scratched the whole idea of "AWA"? As far as I am aware this particular AWA is the only E222 known with this back instead of AWH. I learn something new everyday.....

Posted By: <b>George Dreher</b><p>Pat McCauley was already 39 years old when the T206 set came out. He had been catching in the minor leagues for 20 years! He was only called up to the majors 3 times during that period.<br /><br />Tom Guiheen never did make it to the majors.

Posted By: <b>T E</b><p><br />One of my favorite Victorian (in fact, actually pre-Victorian) advertising motifs is the pointing finger, which was on the Sweet Caps backs in the 350-460 Subjects. <br /><Img src="http://voot.pair.com/hoofaway/vt2.jpg"><BR><br />The pointing finger was common in broadsides and advertising, even packaging, to highlight one point for the consumer. I guess here it was that they expanded from 350 to 460, although I don't know much about T206 history.
