PCL Fanchise / Zeenut Question
 

Posted By: <b>S Gross</b><p>I was thinking of doing the "1911-38 / one year each" Zeenut collection. To make it a little more interesting (at least to me), I thought of doing it with just one team. I'm sure it's been done that way many thimes before. However, my favorite vintage PCL team is the Vernon Tigers (don't ask me why, I don't know, probably the "suburban" aspect of them). Anyway, I know the franchise moved quite a bit, and was wondering if someone could confirm this franchise lineage (also adding dates would be great):<br /><br />Vernon --&gt; Venice --&gt; Vernon --&gt; Mission --&gt; Hollywood<br /><br />I think I'm correct, and could do a little more research myself, but I'll take the easy net54 route.<br /><br /><br />Thanks for any info, greatly appreciated, Scott

Posted By: <b>Mark Macrae</b><p>Vernon 1909-1912....................Venice 1913-1915.............Vernon 1915-1925.........Mission 1926-1937............Hollywood 1938-1957..............There were two different gestations of the Mission & Hollywood ballclubs. The Hollywood Stars which are linked to the Vernon Tigers would be featured in the 1938 Zeenut set. There are 7 players known from that subset. Earlier Zeenuts (1926-35) which feature Hollywood players are from a different franchise that shared the same name.....A detailed historical review of the Mission franchise will be published soon and on the market later this year. It contains a more detailed explanation of the franchise lineage.

They could not compete with the Seals and left. <br /><br />The Hollywood team was briefly called the Sheiks, after the Valentino role in the motion picture "The Sheik". Below are 1928 PCL Exhibits of a Missions player (note the V on his cap for Vernon or Venice) and a Sheik (note the misspelled team name). The Rhodes has a corner clipped where the coupon was removed. Not all 1928s have coupons; I'd consider one with the coupon intact to be especially rare. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1171512046.JPG"> <img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1171512057.JPG">
