Posted By: <b>johnny</b><p>WOW!!<br />i bid on thge card too...thought it would go $600 or maybe a little more...this is an interesting one..i believe there is a sweeney old mill back like this on the t206 musuem.com web site...<br />if anyone can add, i discussed this one with my friend, we have to say that this may be printers scrap, where this is a "TRUE" wet stacked back, where as the sheet was laid immediatley after the print run and stacked so fast that the back was "stamped" so to say, would love to see the borders close on this one...<br />i have a few "wet stacked" cards with varying degree of ink tranfer, but his one looks stamped, but why not overprinted??<br />the reverse negative???maybe printer set up a print plate negative and caught it, ran it of scrap, and tossed the sheet?<br /><br />anybody??<br /><br />johnny

Competition between a few guys who put together PSA 5-7 sets distorted the market for a short time (e.g. by paying $1000+ for PSA 6s), but there has been no general decline--and in fact the trend line is positive. When I (re)started collecting in 2003 I distinctly recall a nice PSA 6 (Zimmerman) selling on eBay for sub $100. You will not find that card for sub $200 today--and will more likely pay about $275.<br />

The printing plates are mirror image, so the correct image is transferred to the surface of the cardboard.<br /><br />This is mirror, so it didn't get printed by a plate.<br /><br />I agree that it couldn't soak through, too much detail, and the cardboard is too thick.<br /><br />That leaves what I think happened: This card got placed face down on sheet of cards with wet backs. Specifically, wet green. The wet ink transferred to the front. Incredible centering for this.<br /><br />Maybe this is a type of overprint, but I think printing comes from a plate.

Perhaps someone more familiar with the lithograph process can offer some assistance here. <br /><br />I don't see how a plate would be made in mirror image. But I'd think that during the printing process, the registration of each color was maintained by placing the cardboard sheet against stops on two sides, top and left, for instance. Then all the plates for each color print on the cardboard with a constant offset from these edges and align on top of each other as they should be. The same for the backs. So, the backs are nominally aligned to the fronts, as we all know by looking at the centering of fronts and backs on most cards<br /><br />So, the amazing alignment of back ink to the front image on the Tiniker card isn't so unusual, after all, it just mirrors the normal alignment of front images to back images. <br /><br />I still maintain that this is a wet transfer from the back of a sheet to the front of another. It suggests that the other cards on that sheet would have similar transfer as this card. That's something we haven't seen, though.<br />
