I was just wondering the chances of striking gold with a couple other backs there. <br /><br />Edited to say..my max by the way was going to be $1600..so I was way off..but was ready to pull the trigger with four seconds to go and by then too late anyway. I kept holding out hope since it wasn't really in the right category.

There were some reds that looked orange, I think a McGinnity. Great group if condition and/or getting them graded isn't an issue. And the Young portrait and Cobb had to be on the bottom row. What luck!

It looks like I will probably find Piedmont 150/350 series backs, and maybe a few Old Mill's, since the T210's are present. All of the T210's are from series 2,3, and 4, so I'm assuming it was done sometime around 1910. <br /> I doubt there are any rare backs involved as most of the smokers I know prefer a particular brand and stick to it, so again probably 90% Piedmont with a chance at a few Old Mill's. Posted By: <b>Dave</b><p>I actually quoted the seller a price of $4,000-$7,000 for removal.I have a lot of experience with historical preservation and conservation. That price doesn't guarantee that any of the cards will be in sellable or gradeable condition either. After finding several dozen pieces just like this one over the years , my brother and I have found that it rarely pays to try and remove the cards when they are double or triple glued which is what this piece showed evidence of. Not too mention it appeared as though one type of adhesive that was used was organic in nature while the other type used probably wasn't. I'm in the process of removing over 40 cards from an scrapbook I bought over a week ago, and about 25% of the cards have been lost, including a T212 Weaver, and a T205 Mathewson. <br /> i was surprised that the price went that high for the item, the seller thought he was going to make high 5 figures off of the sale, and was basing his valuation soley on the fact that there was a Ty Cobb card pasted to the board. Anyway, I hope the piece yields enjoyment for the buyer. Watch for a back damaged Ty Cobb Grren portrait to show up on Ebay in a few weeks if it is salvaged...LOL!!

It brought what its worth. I really dont see a break up value much more than that. With that said the yellow border (T210 Thebo) card is the key and the best thing on the piece, and might bring a few hundred if not more if it is not too bad of shape.<br /><br />Over the years Ive always had good luck removing cards from Victorian Scrapbooks, so cant say from experience about how it would feel to lose a nice card. It would make me think twice about going too far.<br /><br /> 90% of the cards I have dealt with were 1880 Victorian trade cards, N cards (N28, N2, N570), and 1888 Scrapps/R&S diecuts (Ive removed or cleaned up the backs of about 2 dozen of these diecuts alone). But Ive tried it with only about a dozen 1910 era cards.<br /><br /> I always love it when I find out the glue is just a flour and water paste. <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>

The seller told me that he would ship to Canada.. yet when i tried to bid it wouldn't let me <img src="/images/sad.gif" height=14 width=14> oh well, it ended for more money than i was willing to pay for anyways. It would be crazy if there were a bunch of drum backs.
