Billy Sunday pricing
Posted By: Paul
I got busy at work and forgot to bid on this N172 Billy Sunday.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120061553872&ssPa geName=STRK:MEDW:IT&ih=002

Doesn't the price ($472) seem a little cheap. I know he's not as much as Dummy Hoy, but I thought he was at least in Tommy McCarthy territory. By the way, despite the question posted by one bidder, I don't think the card has been skinned or it would not have been graded.

Thanks.

Paul

He's definitely not in the same category as Dummy Hoy because Hoy was quite a ball player. He wasn't near Tommy McCarthy territory. Billy Sunday's real fame came after his playing days. Sunday had a .248 career batting average. He did steal 84 bases one season.

Actually, the price of that Sunday was probably on par with today's market.

Another player with a cult type of following is Williamson (Chicago) holder of the single season HR mark until Ruth broke it. The funny part is that if you understand baseball history you know that most of his homeruns were cheap homeruns in the year he set the record. Also, the following year the same hit was made a double. Williamson cards go for a small premium like Sunday cards.

Posted By: Paul
Thanks. I didn't mean to suggest that Sunday was as good a player as McCarthy. I just thought their cards sold in the same price range.
