Need help concerning Goudey Ruth 144

Posted By: Danny

Hi, I have recently acquired a Goudey Ruth 144 baseball card that has been graded by CSA. The card is rated 6.5. I would like to have it crossgraded to be sure it is real. However, after everything is said and done I will be paying close to $50-60 just to send it in to most anywhere (BGS, PSA, SGC). I took it to a dealer and he looked at it and compared it to some other 33' Goudeys and he thought that it was real. My question is, is there any way to tell whether or not this card is real before I send it in to have it regraded. Whether with a magnifying glass, or something. It's still in it's holder and I am hesitant to take it out. It could very well be real and I don't want to damage it in anyway. Any advice would be greaty appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Posted By: William
I would be more concerned if the card is trimmed/altered or grossly overgraded as being concerned if it is a real card.

Older CSA graded cards (graded in the mid-to late 1990's) in holders that look similar to PSA slabs have a better chance of being ok. I have cracked out an crossed several cards (1967 Mantle CSA 8, etc) to PSA in the same grade.

If the card is in a newer CSA holder (I am not sure how to describe them), there is a better chance than not the card is alter/trimmed.
