Mark Macrae's show in 1974 or 6?****
Posted By: BcD
I had to post this because it was an exciting new idea in the bay area going to a show all the way from San Jose in my 1959 Bugged Eyed Sprite that topped out at 50 miles per hour. But it was worth it! The back of this business card is a summary of T-206's I purchased from Pat who this card came from. I was 16 years old. Barry said he knew Pat.maybe some others on here did as well. Note the $55.00 price I paid for an ex/mt,(actually ex)portrait Green Cobb. I still have it!!! I paid $177.50 for 14 cards now worth 11k! :)Chance card was "cresed"

I few weeks before this show a guy displayed a card collection on "Grand Slam" magazine which had an article on the upcoming boom of baseball card collectiing! I still have the magazine with all the photos of 50's and 60's
cards which motivated me to save harder for Mark's show!

oh and the cards I left behind!
Posted By: edacra

Wow, you have good taste!!

In investors terms, I'm wondering if that's proof that big time speculation in sports cards is a bit silly. I mean, turning $200 into $11,000 is impressive, but over that time span, there are probably easier, and quicker ways to mature that kinda money. Or maybe not? All I know is I found some old issues of SCD when they featured their "hot cards to invest in" picks... and pretty much everything they listed went down in value or stayed the same. I'm not exactly sure what the lesson is here, but I'm pretty certain there is a lesson or two in that post of yours hahah.

Posted By: jackgoodman
I didn't move to Northern California until the mid 80's. But I used to set up at Mark's show as well as the regular "other" shows sponsored by Pat Tinloy, Larry Gerlone, Bob Lee and others. Pat always had a great selection of cards for sale and was always great to deal with. The story at the time was that Pat knew an older gentleman that had binders full of cards and who was frequently in need of cash. So periodically he would go thru the guys binders and buy some cards from him. Never gave us the name of the guy tho. You've got a great keepsake there. Congratulations on keeping it.

Posted By: Paul
You got ripped off. I remember the Card Collectors Company catalog from about 1975 had most T206 Hall of Famers for sale at $5 each. I was only 10 years old at the time and very suspicious in nature. I couldn't believe there were really baseball cards from 1910. I thought something fishy was going on and didn't buy any. But at least I didn't shell out NINE BUCKS for a Bresnahan like BCD. I feel good about my decision.

End of report.

He;s been in the northwest--I seem to recall those states having a distoinctly blue cast during the last election...
