Ok it's oc but why is the card psa1?
Posted By: JudgeDred2
I wondered the same thing when I first saw that card. I figured the seller isn't crying about the grade so there's something that isn't obvious in the scan that isn't being disclosed in the item description. I have a PSA1 34 Goudey that appears beautiful but there is a rather large paper tear that isn't quite visible in a scan. The ebay seller I purchased the card from disclosed the problem and I didn't think it was that bad. Technically the card deserved a "1" but aesthetically, it presented well, like this Ruth card.

Posted By: Brad
Do you think the guy who submitted the card just didn't want the qualifier "OC" and would rather have a grade 1?

wouldn't you pay more for the card that was a pas2oc, do they even have that?

Ok it's oc but why is the card psa1?
Posted By: Rob
My experience with PSA has been there are grade uppers (where a card is borderline it goes to the next higher grade), or the grade downers (where a borderline card drops to the lower grade). This card got a downer. I don't think it's undergraded, but could have been easily a 2.

My pet peeve about card grading in general is no information is provided from the companies as to whether they test their graders and take other steps to ensure grades assigned will be consistent regardless of who grades the card. I'm guessing the companies don't do that because 1) that type of activity doesn't generate revenue and 2) Achieving consistency regardless of who is grading would drastically cut down on the resubmissions, which probably accounts for 5% of their business, and 3) I don't see collectors demanding grading consistency, so theres no point to acvhieve consistency.

For the right price, the buyer may want to resubmit this card to get an upper.

Ok it's oc but why is the card psa1?
Posted By: Anonymous
Steve is correct ... multiple creases right across the middle of the card. The card was definitely folded in half at some point. There must be some slight paper loss, or perhaps some paper separation which has been folded/pressed back down, which is not evident from the scan.

Also, the card is off-center, and has four rounded corners, which of course didn't help the grade.

Still, a great looking 1.

Posted By: Brian
I saw this card, too, and queried the seller. His only response was that the card had creases across the uniform that do not show up in the scan. Scans definitely don't show everything, but if this is true, the grade makes no sense. Would not be the first time.
