Cobb "AUT" auction last night...........
Posted By: scott ingold
I was bidding for awhile and was really suprised by how high it went. Will this be submitted to someone else ?

I actually thought the card looked pretty good..... like possibly it wasn't trimmed. Am i missing something ? Are AUT cards getting these price's on a regular basis ?

Edit to add the bottom and top do look a little off i guess.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8779447700&ssPage Name=STRK:MEDW:IT</a" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8779447700&ssPage Name=STRK:MEDW:IT</a>

Cobb "AUT" auction last night...........
Posted By: Scott Gross
I was watching it too, out of morbid curiosity:

Trimmed -- Short -- Below Minimum Measurement -- whatever, it ain't right, and won't grade anywhere other than PRO (they still around ??), IMHO.

Although there was some funky bidding, I'm not a conspiratist; just a few bidders wishfully thinking of re-grading.

Way too high for an AUTH, once again, IMHO ......

Posted By: Richard
This card in a VG 3 holder would probably run around 1800 today. Being able to buy one that presents like a 3 for 1/3 the price, if you can't afford the 1800 price tag, does not seem outrageous.

The alternative would be to spend 600-800 on an unaltered SGC or PSA 1 with heavy creases and/or paper loss.

I would probably prefer the mildly trimmed one.

edited to add "mildly"

Posted By: identify7
It seems to me that it was not so long ago that any EVID TRM was cause for grading companies' immediate rejection of a card for grading. There were no degrees of trimming, no "mildly" qualifier to distinguish the deceptively trimmed card from that which was trimmed for asthetic preference (what could that mean? See Jay Behrens W. Johnson).

Similarly, any card doctoring was considered nearly sinful behavior, only practiced by back alley scoundrels in an attempt to defraud, or by restorers - who were better employed by those with damage to their paintings. Now we routinely include our soiled, stained t206s in our weekly lavender scented bubble baths.

Wazzup? Running out of money? Ethics? Sense?

Posted By: Richard
For cards that have been altered or trimmed now residing in AUT holders, I would say that they are accurately graded.

As for:

"Wazzup? Running out of money? Ethics? Sense?"

I would say - "Running out of money" would be the most accurate, at least for me.

Posted By: Bob
As mentioned previously, I believe there is going to be a market in the future for "AUT" (authentic) graded cards, especially the rarer cards and those with almost imperceptible trimming. While some collectors will turn those noses up at them and prefer mangled SGC 10s or PSA 1s, I think this is an area of the hobby which will become increasingly "hot" in years to come. SGC is now grading cards as "AUT" which have major paper loss on the back and some of these, especially some of the caramel cards I have seen floating around, have very nice fronts.

Posted By: fkw
That Cobb is missing a big chunk of the bottom border, it is obviously trimmed. E90-1s have a very large bottom border. $600 doesnt seem like much for a low grade E90-1 Cobb.

My opinion...... now that trimmed cards can be slabbed they will bring more $$, because they now will fit into a nice slabbed card collection.

They should have slabbed them 10 years ago!

Frank
