FIRST PRE-WAR
Posted By: Ray
All,
Just bought my first pre-war card ever. Probably paid a little more than its worth but I figure I'm gonna take some bites every now and then, and this bite is way to small to be worried about. You'll probably see me on here a lot, asking dumb novice questions, but stick with me, please! Thanks, Ray

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8779864983&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Posted By: Ray
Thanks fellas. How does everyone feel about the 1936 Goudey set ("regular" size, not the wide pens) as a starter set for a guy with a very limited budget? -Ray

FIRST PRE-WAR
Posted By: T206Collector
...I don't care much for post-WWI cards. And, as far as starter sets go, it is hard to go wrong with T206.

FIRST PRE-WAR
Posted By: Tom Boblitt
36 Goudey is a nice set for someone to collect in starting off. Not too many cards, no huge HOFers to break the bank and you can get EX condition cards in the $20-$30 range for 'commons'. Plus if you want to get really jiggy, try to collect the different backs or 1-2 players with different backs. They're not scarce but aren't all over the place either.

Posted By: Scot Reader

Ray,

I am no expert on Goudey but I believe the Lindstrom card on eBay is part of the Wide Pen premiums (R314). Lindstrom is part of that set but is not part of the regular 1936 Goudey set (R322).

Scot

Posted By: Anonymous
Further research shows me that you're probably right. It's really hard to tell the difference from the two sets. Is there an easy way? Are the backs different or #d? Thanks
