Could anyone please help with an SGC Question?
 

Posted By: <b>Bobbie</b><p>Hi, I'm sure this won't thrll most of you But I recently bought a 1915 Cracker Jack #21 Henry Zimmerman. The Question I have is that it's Only SGC Aut. It Says (Authentic) (Nagy Collection). I'm trying to figure out if there is a reason it can't be graded or someone only had it's authenticity Checked. There are no other codes or anything I can tell from the label. I would be glad to send a picture, I don't know how to include one on the post.<br />Any Help Would be Much appreciated. It's My First One and Only Old card. I know it's a common and Nothing special But you have to get interested somewhere.<br />Thanks

Posted By: <b>Seth B.</b><p>A couple of the Nagy cards were deemed trimmed by SGC and given "AUT" labels. This applied to some E92s that I was watching at auction, and I think others might confirm that it applied to some other cards as well. So your card may have been trimmed before being holstered, but have no fear, the provenance is such that in this case it doesn't hurt the value all that much.<br />A scan would help confirm this. Look under Forum FAQ's for instructions on how to post images.<br /><br />Seth

Posted By: <b>John J. Grillo</b><p>Customers have the option of asking SGC to encapsulate and label cards as "AUT" if deemed trimmed. I have several "AUT" cards in my collection by SGC that I knew were trimmed when I submitted them...I simply asked SGC to encapsulate anyway. <br /><br />This is a good practice by a grading company imo. It's a win-win-win situation. 1) Grading company gets more business 2) Customers get his/her cards encapsulated 3) Potential buyers are protected knowing an "AUT" card is trimmed.

Posted By: <b>Zach Rice</b><p>Because it was a part of the Frank Nagy collection which was sold a little while back in Mastro. He was a hobby legend and SGC put his name on the slabs of the cards as a special little note to commemorate him.

If you just bought it on ebay, the value would be somewhere about what the 2nd-highest bidder was willing to pay for it. <br /><br />Condition: It is trimmed. <br /><br />All SGC has told us with the AUT is that it is not a reprint.

Some people might not care as much as if the back was written on or something, but the card is what it is. If I were to sell it, I would probably say something like, "Card presents VG, but shows evidence of trimming."

Posted By: <b>Scott Mosley</b><p>As others have said, that is a very nice Cracker Jack card and as long as you are happy with the purchase, that is all that matters.<br /><br />I just wanted to add that an AUT designation does not necessarily mean that a card was trimmed. Often times a card might not show evidence of trimming but measures a bit short due to the original factory cut.<br /><br />I just recently had a batch of about 80 or so Cracker Jacks graded by SGC that I've had in my possesion for over 30 years and three of them came back as too short but not evidence of trimming.<br /><br />Here is an example:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.sgccardregistry.com/images.asp?cardid=10228&usetid=1668" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://www.sgccardregistry.com/images.asp?cardid=10228&usetid=1668</a>

Posted By: <b>Brian E.</b><p>Second what Scott said. An AUT slabbed card doesn't ALWAYS meaned trimmed or altered. For example, I have Red Cobb T206 that is in horrible shape and is slabbed AUT because it does not meet the minimal standards of an SGC 10. However, it is not altered.
