Another Jackson Item?

Posted By: Jim Clarke
This Circa 1907-8 postcard claims to have Joe Jackson on it. I know he played in Greenville, but the seller claims he is in this postcard... I don't see him... Does anyone else?

Posted By: barrysloate
JC- the picture is a little small but none of the faces jump out at me as being Jackson. He wasn't there that long, and this looks like a different year.

Posted By: Brian Weisner

Hi JC,
I have a copy of a picture from the 1908 Greenville Spinners, but can't seem to get a clear scan to post. None of the players on this post card look like Jackson or any other player in my photo. I think it's a picture of the Greenville High School team, hence the GHS on one of the kids shirts, but who knows. I will be happy to email you a copy of my photo. Be well Brian

Posted By: joe brennan
I also saw the postcard for sale claiming it was Joe Jackson. It is Joe Jackson. He was a shoe salesman in Greenville after the team benched him for 3 errors in one innning. He went on to marry his wife Peg and had to children, Bud and Kelly and a dog named Buck.

A scared man can't gamble and a jealous man can't work.

Posted By: roger
there was a joe jackson postcard that appeared on
ebay several years ago picturing jackson in a batting stance
wearing a greenville uniform with the caption "joe jackson,
greenville boy now with philadelphia". the seller ended
the auction early after offering the item for $5,000 to
some of those who had e-mailed him. anyone know what
became of this postcard?

Posted By: Daniel Bretta
Last year there was a snapshot photo of a teenage boy in a greenville uniform from the early 1900's that went for about $300. I looked at it and didn't think it looked like Jackson, but I guess all you have to have is an early 1900's image of a kid in a Greenville uniform and it's as good as gold.

Posted By: Frank Ceresi
Joe Jackson is definately not in the initial photo in this posting, I am afraid. I went to Greenville a few years ago with my son for the dedication of a Joe Jackson ballfield in Brandon Mills and saw several photos of Joe as a Spinner and the photos showing him are pretty obvious. I recall seeing a photo of the Spinners that allegedly contained Joe that was so far off that it was laughable. The funny thing, though, it hung proudly on the wall of one of the top collectors in the country. Wierd!
