Opinions on this Lajoie for Jim's benefit please

Posted By: Damian
I currently have a prospective buyer for a '33 Goudey Lajoie in a PSA 2 holder. I have received private opinions on the card from a couple of fellow forum members already that the card is fine. The potential buyer asked that I post images here on the forum for the purpose of getting opinions on the cards authenticity. As stated the card is graded by PSA and I really have no question as to the cards legitimacy, but for his piece of mind before he laid down big bucks he wanted some more opinions from respected folk. Any response or input in appreciated.

Posted By: John
Normally I do not like cards this beat up--but this one has the nice bright green background and Lajoie is sharp and bright against it. If I may be so bold, I'm curious about the price.

Posted By: ScottS
Absolutely authentic and a card I would be proud to call my own. I hate to disagree but in my opinion the card is all of a 2 grade. It has retained much of it's eye appeal and for me that's more important than the technical grade anyway. If it were mine, I wouldn't sell it if I didn't have to. Try replacing it! Unless of coarse you have an upgrade.

Posted By: quan
i think alot of people here might grade others' cards more harshly than their own...leon's ewing is a 2, and this lajoie certainly fit the bill for a 2...i've absolutely seen worse 2s in both sgc and psa cases.

Posted By: Zach S.
Scott, I agree... no way would I sell it unless I absolutely had to (regardless of the grade).

I know the history behind this card but, does anybody know how many Goudey made and how many of those still exist today?

Posted By: Anonymous
There are several scratches on the front, and I suspect that hurt the grade more than any of the other issues this card has. There is no paper loss, and the card does not have any significant creasing (I only see some wrinkles in the corners). There's a little staining on the front, but no major marks. All the corners are soft, but the rounding does not extend into the "green" of the card. The edges are "ok", and there's the typical Goudey toning and some additional staining on the back.

Maybe the oversized scans add some shock value to the defects, but a grade of 2 seems right to me. I wouldn't be surprised if SGC graded this a 30, although I would not be shocked if SGC assigned a 20 either.

One of the all-time great cards, which I'd be glad to own in any condition.
