Trading questions

Posted By: Joe Jones
What is the best way to trade a card through the mail if you dont know the person you are trading with. Should I wait for the trade material to reach me before I ship out my card? Just like if someone was buying the card with cash, I would wait for the cash before shipping.

Posted By: cmoking
If you are trading, I'd think both of you should ship at the same time. If I was your counterparty, I'd be upset if you waited for my item to get to you before you ship. Wouldn't you be upset if you found out that your counterparty didn't ship his item until he received yours? Actually, if you both had the same attitude of waiting for the other's item before shipping - the trade would never actually happen.

Posted By: andy becker
this is a very good question. some board members should really read this. if you are trading, ask for references....ebay id, other collectors, etc.
if you are not comfortable at that point....then don't trade.
if you are comfortable, then you should ship asap after consumating the deal. anything else is rude.

If you are not sure about a trading partner feel free to send emails to contributors and ask if they have had any experience with them. I have never had a problem with dealing with any on the board except for one or 2 people that said they would pay something and never follow thru. At leasst I am not out anything in those instances.

Overall this is a great bunch of people that frequent this board. Many times I send cards to members even before payment is received and have had the same happen to me.

Lee

Trading questions

Posted By: Shawn
As a person who gets 95% of the cards I need via trades, this is the way I handle new swaps. I'll ask for a reference or two from previously completed trades. Most of the time I'm already familiar with the references mentioned due to the various trading groups in which I am a member. I'll contact one or two and if things went well then I'll send at the same time. If concerns are mentioned from those previous traders or if I don't happen to be familiar with the references, I ask that the requesting party send first and offer references in return. Upon arrival, and if item was as described, I send my end of the deal out the next day.

This scenario has worked for me for a long time and I have made well over 2500 successful trades in the last few years, with only a couple of problems.

--Shawn
