curious as to if anthing fishy about this card
Posted By: wayne
I'd like to entertain this card to our fine panel of judges to see if it smells fishy to any of you out there in vintage ball card land. What do you think? Thanks!

Wayne

http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-11-T206-NAP-LAJOIE-HOF-NR-MT-READ_W0QQitemZ8750209223QQcategoryZ86840QQssPageNa meZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Posted By: Sammy
Why do you suggest We stay away from this seller? I just looked at "ALL" of you feedback and you never had dealings with him??? I have purchased many lots from him, never had problem 1! Alway pleasant to deal with, returned one item and had a full refund the same day they received it. What is your side of the story???

Posted By: identify7
Sammy: your question is reasonable. I may be a bit harsh, but my thinking is that there are so many opportunities to buy, that one does not have to resort to sellers who employ questionable tactics.

Admittedly I only looked at his other items for sale, before I made my recommendation. But the question which was asked was "does anything smell fishy about this". And indeed, a seller who offers a certified coin lot containing PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG graded coins is essentially offering the same thing as in our hobby may be called PSA, GAI, PRO, NASA and NGC graded cards.

He does not specify which coins are offered. He does infer what coins could be included. And he provides all bidders with the additional security of a private auction.

This single point of evidence is all that I felt that I needed to conclude that this seller belongs in the sea. If you have had successful transactions with this seller, and you know that the cards which he supplied to you are good, then your evidence is accepted by me as valid data. However, my conclusion remains the same. I do not bid on auctions run by sellers who employ tactics which I consider questionable. And I encourage others to be (perhaps overly) careful as well, unless they are quite knowledgable, and willing to accept a calculated risk.

Edited to add:

I just read a little of his feedback: he has recently sold mainly coins. He is a scammer. You may want to reevaluate your holdings from his auctions.
Posted By: Josh K.
Just an FYI - I believe (based on the thread linked below) that Sammy and the seller in question here are one in the same. Real subtle Sammy.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/153652/thread/1137006232/last-1137168197/Too+good+to+be+true-

Posted By: Chad
Sammy is like the A-Team. He goes from vintage message board to vintage message board protecting innocent sellers from the nazi thuggery of message board lurkers with no collection and, also, no lives. We owe him a debt of gratitude. Of course, the seller could just get these cards slabbed, make a boatload more money on them and not have to worry about the accusations of fascist no collection having collectors, but what fun would that be? Better to use bright colors and big fonts! What could be more sincere than bright colors and big fonts? Ok, talking dolphins, I'll grant you that, but besides talking dolphins?

--Chad

Posted By: Charlie O'Neal
The NR/MT graded card with a light surface wrinkle across the face is fishy enough for me not to bid. IMO if a seller is deciving in a description (on purpsoe) then than it is not worth the money to play Russian roulette.

Posted By: T206Collector
...if you truly had NRMT T206 cards, it would cost you a $10 investment to make them worth thousands of dollars. Any seller worth his salt knows that.

I believe these cards were probably cracked out of Pro holders and are trimmed.

Posted By: Sammy
No We are not one in the same! First off, I am From Memphis! Here is a recent email from Tim:

Hi Sammy, thank you for your email, we do not submit anything (cards, coins, comics and so-on), if we by a coin or card slabbed, it gets sold slabbed, if ywe by it raw, it is sold raw. I have a very small business and to wait as long as it takes coins and cards to get back would put me in the poor house fast!
As for "Private Auctions" we run them on our higher ticket items to keep our bidders from receiving Fraudulant Second Chance Offers which, if you have had any high dollar dealings on Ebay you will know, has become a serious problem.
Best Regards, Tim

Does that answer anyones questions?
Sammy, OUT!

Posted By: wayne
I appreciate all the good advice regarding this card, and his other t-206's he has on sale. I also didnt like that he really hasnt sold true vintage in any other of his past auctions. Lotta coins, lotta 70's football, but no vintage makes me leary. You all are an invaluable resource!!!

Wayne

Posted By: Jon & Jennifer
Came in rather late on this one, but personally, this is what slays me...

"...and to wait as long as it takes coins and cards to get back would put me in the poor house fast!"

Oh puhlease. The turnaround time on grading isn't so long for him to suggest that his decision to NEVER grade ANYTHING -- especially those cards which might be well worth the wait to have slabbed (or hey, pay an extra few bucks for expedited) -- was based on that factor alone. He could have said nearly anything else -- but the turnaround time???

Poor house, my a**. I'd steer clear of his auctions based upon his sloppiness alone -- who knows if the package would even be addressed correctly? I mean, you'd think with all the cash he's supposedly saving himself by not grading, he could at the very least invest in a dictionary. <:-0

Posted By: Dan Koteles
I know Tim very well. He will buy coins and cards
graded or not. HE never sends anything in and goes
by looks only. When I first dealt with him, I had
one problem and he corrected it immediately. His
expertise comes in 50's cards. He has alot of good
friends in the hobby and is well liked. Doesnt mean
that he is supposed to be how you want hin to be. If
he backs something up AND compensates you for your
trouble.... he is a good guy.

I bought a really sweet Matty port- he guaranteed it
would grade. SGC said miscut ,he gave me a refund , he relisted it with a guarantee, the next guy submitted
it to PSA, gotta 6 and I lost out at 1200.00. It only
had a slight upper incline w/ jumbo boarders .I liked
the card or wouldnt have pursued it. He is good to his
word, that is all that matters.
