Posted By: barrysloate
It's certainly a tough card, I've only had one I can remember, but because the error is so small I think many people overlook it. There may be many floating around that haven't even been identified yet. But it is tough and a slabbed one will sell for quite a big premium.

Posted By: Martin Neal
I have only seen four Shappes on Ebay over the last 4-5 years. Two were graded by PSA, one I bought on the hope that it would be a Shappe (later sent to PSA) and one, ungraded, that that was recently sold on EBAY. There are four listed on the PSA population report. I am also curious as to the scarcity of this card.

Posted By: Martin Neal
Don't quote me, but I think the one on Ebay was graded a 3 or 4 and it sold in the $250.00 range. I rememeber kicking myself for not bidding. Maybe someone else with a better memory than mine will know.

Posted By: Martin Neal
I should be really kicking myself! And I am not kidding about seeing a nice Shappe, advertised as a Shappe, sell for a moderate amount of money (200- 300 dollars) I can not remember if it was graded or not and I want to say this auction was around 9 -12 months ago. I am sure there are others who track t206s as I do and may remember the auction. I remember being a little disapointed that it didn't go for more, thereby, possibly making my psa 1 Shappe less valuable.

Posted By: Tom Botticelli
Hi All,

Opinions please. At what point does a card like the Shappe or Snodgrass error become part of T206 lure and command a premium. I am sure if we all looked at our T206's we could each find a card that has an error in the name. I just looked through a couple of my T206's and found a Griffith Batting PSA 3 with a mistake in the name. No paper loss, just a screwed up printers cap. Any thoughts?

Tom

Posted By: barrysloate
Tom- That's a good point. I think there are countless printing glitches in the set and it's unclear if they will always be perceived the same way in the future. They sell for a lot of money and they aren't really errors, just the result of a lack of ink in the printing plate at the time of issue. Your Griffith card is more impressive than the Shappe, but it doesn't have the publicity yet.

Posted By: Brian Weisner
Hi Tom and Barry,
You're both right, there are several printing errors that are much tougher than the Shappe, but they have not been publicized as much. I have several I would like to share, but haven't found enough of them yet...(more than 2).

Be well Brian

T206 Shappe

I recently spoke to Brian at SGC & in their pop report on the Shappe card, and there are only 7 graded by SGC, 5 Piedmont & 2 Sweet Caporal. The highest graded SGC 50. I picked up that SGC 50 card in a private sale 4 months ago. I am planning to list that card or sell the card down the road.

Wow! A 4 year plus bump, bbsports...that might be a record!

Is the Shappe variation still a card people care about?
