Posted By: <b>Cathy</b><p>I have just come into some baseball memorabilia and I was wondering what it all might be worth. I know first hand that everything is authentic, because my grand father pitched for the NY Yankees in the'49 World Series. Items include, a team signed ball from '49 including Joe Dimaggio and Larry (Yogi) Berra, World Series program (mint condition)and grandpa's baseball card. Additonally, he's father was also a very noted player back in the 20's - 30's, and I have baseball cards of him too, dated 1923 by Beechnut(?), along with a huge scrap book of sports page clippings dating back to the early 20's and some very old pictures. To me it's all pricless, since it's my heritage, but I need to get an idea of what I'm looking at so I can proceed to get an insurance policy on it. Any advice would be appreciated!

Posted By: <b>ullmandds</b><p>I'd say the autographed ball obviously has the most $$ value...probably anywhere from a few grand to maybe 10K to the right person depending on the condition. I'd insure the lot for 10-13K.<br /><br />pete in mn<br /><br />ps. if there are any babe ruth, lou gehrig autographs in the scrapbook or bb cards of these 2 the value may be higher

Posted By: <b>identify7</b><p>With Reynolds, Raschi, Byrne and Lopat as starters winning a game a piece, and Joe Black mopping up as needed; the remainder of the Yankee pitching staff only took part in warming up and cheering.<br /><br />And there was a lot to cheer. 1949 was the first of five consecutive World Series wins for the Yankees. No other team has ever done that. I am glad that youre grandfather was a part of it.<br /><br />To also have memoribilia from that important piece of history is something to treasure beyond its monetary value.

Posted By: <b>fkw</b><p>The Beechnut? card you mentioned is actually a Zeenut card. They show players from the Pacific Coast League. A player named Hood is found in the 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929, and 1930 sets. Posted By: <b>Cathy</b><p>Thanks everyone for all the info. The picture shown is one of the 5 that I have. I've learned a great deal about my grandfather and great-grandfather is the past day or so. I've also got the orginal contract from the Yankee's to Wally Jr., so I know when he played. I know he was just a blip in the Yankees history, but he's there and having the '49 World Champion team photo with him in the second row 4th from the left, is enough for me - even if he was only a cheerleader. I've been asked by several people, if they played PCL. I've got so many different pictures, I'm not sure what I'm looking at. One large picture has the Solons on their jerseys - who's the Solons? Could someone list several of the PCL teams, so I might be able to refrence some of the pictures? Thanks again!

He wore two uniform #s in 1949, #39 and #52.<br /><br />I believe the Yankees brought him up from the Kansas City<br />Blues of the American Association. He also pitched for the<br /> Newark Bears of the International League that year.<br /><br /><br /><br />Gil......Sorry, but I have to correct you....you really meant<br /> to say Joe Page (not Joe Black).

He would be brought<br />into the game in the 6th inning and totally shut-down the<br />opposing team hitters for 4-innings. His two most effective<br />years were 1947 and 1949. In 1947 he won the 7th and final<br /> game of one of the most exciting World Series ever played<br /> to beat the Dodgers.<br /><br />I am sure your Grandfather, being a pitcher, was very impres-<br />sed with Joe Page in 1949.
