The majority of the e95/e96 blank backs you see are all cut from the notebook or from advertising pieces and are not actually considered a part of the set or "proofs" from the set. These "notebooks" were issued in the 1912-13 range and I believe there is one intact still around. In terms of value, these generally go for around what the card in the actual set would go for...give or take a few dollars depending on the player.<br /><br />Hope this helps.

Posted By: <b>Brian McQueen</b><p>I wouldn't think it would go for any more than what a normal e96 Lajoie in this grade would go for. Unless there's been some boost in caramel pricing (in addition to what we've already seen) that I'm not familiar with, I don't think this card is worth nearly what it is being offered for. In addition, like some of the other guys were saying, the holder is a big concern as I would be concerned about whether or not the card is trimmed or even authentic. Assuming the card was legit however, factoring in that damage on the front, I don't think it would exceed $150 but that's just one man's opinion.

I know you all know that Alan Hager ran the company and since disgraced himself in the card industry. Being a Proof collector and knowing Mr. Hager before he turned a new leaf in his life, I believe that Alan Hager knew more about Proofs than any other person. Since the people at ASA routinely gave important cards to Alan for his grade. That means to me that this is real. Alan had a great interest in Proofs and he shared it with me in his better days. So for what it is worth -- I say it is real.

I had said that this card shouldn't go for more than $150 but I don't think it would even sell for that much with all the damage on the front. If SGC were to reslab it that might make a bit of a difference however.<br /><br />Also, keep in mind that only a specialized collector would be interested in something like this. I sort of like collecting the oddball cards from various caramel sets but wouldn't pay $150 for this card. <br /><br />Also, one other thing...I believe most if not all of the blank-backed e95s and e96s that have been found have been classified as Notebook cards and not proofs. There are maybe one or two exceptions such as the Cobb that was cut off a scorecard. Someone else may correct me on this but I don't believe a "proof" for either of these sets really exists. This Lajoie, in effect, is simply a glorified "strip card".
