Posted By: brian p
The T206 Bat-on is a great card, but I think Ty Cobb had such an interesting, intense face, that he doesn't have many clunker cards. Some of the W issues of him are of course subpar, and I would have to put the T201 issue in the same boat as it does not accurately depict him, in my opinion. Some of the great 20's caramel issues, overlooked so far on everyone's list (I think, I didn't look that close) depict great action photographic images of him, like the E121's, E220 and E126.

Brian

Posted By: JimB
Jeff,
The bat-on card is a nice card and I own one. It just does not have that intensity that the others do. The colors in the bat-off are incredible to me; it is one of my favorites from the whole set. And the portraits are real classics and really capture the intensity of Cobb. Just a personal preference for me.
JimB

Posted By: Wesley
Joe, The Wolverine News has only a Cobb batting and a Cobb portrait. If you have a Cobb fielding, that would be a very cool new discovery.

which cobb
Posted By: Joe maples
Hello Wesley, I know the books call the card a portrait, but I often wondered if there was a Cobb fielding. I have a Detroit Tiger checklist book that lists all Detroit cards 1903 - 1983. In that checklist it lists a Cobb right fielder, I assume that is the portrait with right fielder printed on the postcard.

Joe

which cobb
Posted By: Wesley
Joe, There is no such card as the Wolverine News fielding. If you saw the card, it would be clear to you that it is a headshot portrait and not a fielding card.

You are thinking of the Dietsche set.
|
which cobb
Posted By: Joe maples
Wesley, no it's the Wolverine set. I have the 1907 Dietsche set and yes that does have the fielding and the batting pose. I just think the author of the checklist book calls it Cobb right fielder, the position, not fielding.

Joe
