Single player collectors out there? Posted By: Bryan Long
Are there any collectors out there that only collect 1 player? I know it seems strange, but I have found myself collecting only Walter Johnson cards the past few months and really enjoy the collection. While doing so I have found that I am also starting a type collection even though they are all Johnson cards. I was just curious to see if there are any collectors that only collect one player or maybe just 2 players. With the price of cards going crazy right now - this method seems to fit into my budget very well.

My website: http://photobucket.com/albums/b45/trib01/ |

Single player collectors out there? Posted By: Jimi
You know this is only a phase you're going through. Next month you'll collecting 1971 Topps cards in poor condition!

I actually love the idea of doing the player collections. HOWEVER, I always have a problem deciding who to collect. I mean, it was easy to collect the players you grew up watching, but none of us saw Cobb play, so I find it difficult to grow with a player unless I know a little about him.

So the question may need to be shifted to, "How do you go about choosing your player to collect?"

Jimi |

I am looking for the "hands at neck" pose.

If you have it - please note: it is worth more to me than it is to you, and I am prepared to prove it (I think). Well maybe, but I am sure, almost. |

Made a huge impression on me. Oh, by the way I have finished the Dick Stigman collection in case anyone was curious. |

Single player collectors out there? Posted By: Bryan Long
I did not realize that there were so many Johnson collectors out there. This may be a good reason why you rarely see any Johnson card besides the t206 and other norms like t205, t201 and t202 cards. Even the relatively "easy" ones are hard to get a hold of such as the e121, e220 and so forth. I think that is what makes collecting him so much fun. I guess I should stop talking as now everyone will keep their eye out for Walter Johnson cards

My website: http://photobucket.com/albums/b45/trib01/ |

Single player collectors out there? Posted By: Lyle
Collecting one player allows one to really get to know the sets represented during a player's career . In some ways , the choice of Cobb has been fortunate in that his career has spanned many diverse sets . On the down side , of course , is the sometimes exorbinant cost .Even so , I have been able to put together a decent collection by focusing my resources .
Unfortunately , it seems that Cobb collectors seem to have deeper pockets than most which is negative when I try to purchase , but positive when I sell . |

My Padgett is complete but I would like a photo of him in a Phillies uniform.

Also, just found a minor league Johnson bobble head on the West Coast. I'm not a BH collector but I just could'nt pass this one up. |

Single player collectors out there? Posted By: identify7
CaptainMiller: What is your assessment of the necessity of including the ad on a 1951 Wheaties Musial? I have seen ones with the ad trimmed off, apparently recently cut from a complete box, grade PSA 10.

However, I feel the card is incomplete without the ad. ? |
|
Single player collectors out there? Posted By: Roy Miller
I would prefer the card to have the ad. However, as with all cards cut from a box or other package, it was probably performed by some little fellow who just liked the player or needed a new card for his bike spokes! That's how I remember collecting in the beginning. Do you have a good '51 Wheaties of Musial that you could scan and share with us? I have both '52s. |

Single player collectors out there? Posted By: Scott Forrest
Ed Reulbach and Nap Rucker. Not so much cards anymore, but anything else related to them. Dream item would be a scored scorecard of them pitching against each other - recently picked up a 1911 scored card of Rucker's 17th victory that year. |
