Posted By: scott ingold
I thought i would work on the w514's for awhile, but not to familier with them yet. Will it grade ? It looks very nice for a hand cut job.

This is the lake from the same auction last night.

Posted By: scott ingold
Well.....do tell, The t206's i collect but how about the w514 ? does this grade well ?

I'm just not sure how they are looked at being hand cut cards. As i said it looked very nice to me but i've never ventured into these type's before. Also what is a brief history of this set ?
and how rare are they ?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

My commentary solely related to the quality of your acquisition and the price which you paid for it.

I do not think that cards which are cut by kids should be forced through an evaluation scheme 80+ years later. This is a part of our Americana. Your selection, however, conforms well with current thinking regarding how kids should have cut their cards.

Scott: if you do not know much about this set, may I refer you to Black Sox Fan, he has knowledge (as do many others here) regarding this set. One of the most popular aspects of this set is that it is the one which contains the most persons who got thrown out of baseball for some reason, or no reason at all. But the reason I like it is that it contains two of the twentieth century pitchers who achieved more wins in a season, than walks surrendered. And you just got one whose record was equalled by Slim Salee during the year that his w514 picture was drawn. Have fun, it is a quaint set.

Oh wait. I think that this set also includes the first four pitchers to win 20 games on the same team. That would be Kerr, Williams, Cicotte, and Faber. There may be more - but it is an interesting set.
