Are stamps cards?
 

Posted By: <b>jay behrens</b><p>I got to thinking about the other night more in ragard to Cuban cards. It seems that many Cuban issues were meant to be pasted into albums like stamps. Does this qualify as a card? Personlly, I say no. The definition of a what a card is, is somewhat nebulous. To me, if something is meant to be pasted into an album, it automatically gets put into the catagory of being a stamp and not a card.<br /><br />Jay<br><br>My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

Posted By: <b>Kenny Cole</b><p>The mere fact that an album might be issued to house cards does not magically make the cards become stamps. E120's had an album to house them, but I don't seen even a decent argument that they are anything other than cards. I believe that Cracker Jacks also had albums issued to house them. However, I am unaware of anyone (with the possible exception of you <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>) who thinks that the issuance of the album means that that Cracker Jacks are now really stamps.<br /><br />There may be many defining characteristics of a "card" depending on whose definition is being used. What comprises a "card" has been discussed before. However, IMO, issuing an album to hold them, even if the manner of holding is pasting or gluing, doesn't turn something that has most or all of the characteristics of a card into a stamp. Call me crazy, but I think that's true for both the American, Cuban and Puerto Rican issues.<br /><br />Kenny Cole

If this is acceptable as a card, then perforating it and putting glue on the back might be ok too.<br /><br />Some modern cards appear to be made out of plastic. If this is ok, then aluminium and other materials may be too. If you make a colgan's chips type card out of aluminium, you have a coin.<br /><br />So stamps and coins are cards to some, but not me.<br /><br />Is the entire back of a full size Wheaties box a card, just because it shows a ballplayer? How about a notebook cover? Is that 1957 Swifts "assemble a player stand up" a card? The list goes on.<br /><br />So Jay, this was not a silly question, to me. But I don't know the answer.
