Pinkerton question
Posted By: Jeff Mohler
Can anyone tell me what set the card from Mike Pugeda is from? I just picked up three cards from the set at a country auction, but I don't know what they are from. I am a very new collector, so forgive my ignorance.

edited title for clarification (leon)

Pinkerton question
Posted By: Jeff Mohler
I found out that my "cards" are Pinkerton blank back postcards (without the nice gray border). They look like SGC 10's. I hope I didn't do too badly at $20.00 a piece.

Many thanks to the members who responded so quickly to a beginner's question.

Jeff Mohler

Posted By: Mike Pugeda
Wow, I haven't had my name brought up that much since I dated the prinicipal's daughter (kidding)

Jeff, as others have stated, it is a 1911 Pinkerton PC with blank-back.
I believe they also came with scorecard backs although I'm not sure which are tougher to come by.

The actual Pinkerton cabinets (T5?) are consederably scarcer and $$$$$.

Mike Pugeda

Pinkerton question
Posted By: John
I have a blank-backed postcard style Pinkerton of Babe Adams. I have read that these were reproduced in the 50's. Are there any defining characteristics that differentiate the period blank-backs from the newer issues? The jury is still out on the one that I own.

Pinkerton question
Posted By: warshawlaw
I've never heard of that before.

I know that the specimens I have (which came from different sources) have age foxing that would be very hard to fake and are not 2nd generation prints.

To clarify my previous statement/question regarding my uncertainty of its age, the card was bought from a postcard dealer who told me that it was most likely a reproduction from the 50's. As much as I hoped otherwise, I did not press for any more details as I only paid $4 (last year). The card measures about 5 3/8" by 3 1/2", is on thin semi-gloss stock, and does not appear to have once been attached to a backing. Hopefully this description is consistent with other blank-backed T5's. I have no others to compare. A nice piece for a Pirate's collector nonetheless.
