TRIVIA....Unique World Series Pitching Performance

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Name the only pitcher to win the 1st game of a World Series
playing in one league....then 5 years later won the 1st game
of that World Series playing in the other league?

Incidently, in the latter victory he drove in the winning run.

He is the only pitcher ever to accomplish this while pitching
in both leagues.

TRIVIA....Unique World Series Pitching Performance

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
David McD....You are a BB Trivia "genius". How did you guess it?

I came up with this one years ago and only one other person
has ever answered it correctly.

Johnny Sain won the 1st WS game as a Brave in 1948 (vs Clev.).
As a Yankee, he won the 1st game of the 1953 WS (vs Dodgers)in
relief. Sain helped his team by driving in the winning run.

Sain was the Yankees' pitching coach from 1961 - 64. Then he
became the Minnesota Twins coach and helped them get into the
1965 World Series.

Johnny then became coach for Detroit and helped the Tigers win
the World Series in 1968. He finally became the coach for the
White Sox in the early '70s. And, "Goose" Gossage (in his book)
attests to the effectiveness of Johnny Sain as a pitching coach
Gossage credits Sain for converting him from a "thrower" into a
the powerful pitcher he became.
