E123 Curtis Ireland / V100 Willards Question

Posted By: Paul
The E123 Curtis Ireland set and the V100 Willards set are supposed to have the same cards. The V100s are supposed to be just the Canadian version of the E123s.

But the Standard Catalog lists a "Tom Griffith" in the V100 set and a "Clark Griffith" in the E123 set. I assume this is a mistake, and both sets contain the same Griffith. Do any of you know which Griffith actually appears in these sets? Is it possible that there really are different cards in the two sets?

I contacted Bob Lemke and he seemed to think both sets probably include the same Griffith, but didn't immediately have an answer to these questions. If any of you do, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Paul

E123 Curtis Ireland / V100 Willards Question

Posted By: Hal Lewis
If they are from 1923... it has to be Tom Griffith.

Clark Griffith had even retired from managing by 1921.

From 1920 to 1955, he was the OWNER of the Washington Senators...

so I guess it could be his card if they show him in a suit in the boardroom counting money.

E123 Curtis Ireland / V100 Willards Question

Posted By: Paul
It might be possible that the card shows Clark as an owner. The Cracker Jack set shows Comiskey as an owner. And we all know about that damn Spalding card.
