Posted By: <b>Mark</b><p>Hi Jeff,<br /><br />Welcome to the Forum! As far as current card prices, I recommend doing an "advance search" on ebay and looking at the ending prices of completed listings. The price of the T206s yuo mentioned will depend on i) whether you get them graded (I highly recommend this unless you buy from an established dealer), ii) which pose (the portraits are a little more) and iii) whether you get a common (eg, Piedmont) or rare back. I just ran a search and, between Chance and Evers, there were six PSA 4 (VG-EX) T206s that recently ended with the prices ranging from $152-$180.<br /><br />Enjoy the National!<br /><br />Mark<br />

Posted By: <b>T206Collector</b><p>Keep in mind that the easiest variations to find of Evers is the one with Chicago written down his shirt -- his portrait card and his batting card with blue background and Cubs on his shirt are much rarer and will go for substantially more as a result. Similarly, the Red Portrait version of Chance is also quite rare and will sell for more than his Chicago on shirt variation. Each of the Tinkers are a bit hard to come by, but the most valuable appears to be his portrait.<br /><br />"Baseball's Sad Lexicon"<br /><br />These are the saddest of possible words:<br />"Tinker to Evers to Chance."<br />Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,<br />Tinker and Evers and Chance.<br />Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,*<br />Making a Giant hit into a double--<br />Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:<br />"Tinker to Evers to Chance."<br /><br />In 1910, New York newspaper columnist Franklin Pierce Adams immortalized the Cubs double play team Joe Tinker (SS), Johnny Evers (2B), and Frank Chance (1B) in verse, cementing their legend and helping them gain election to the Hall of Fame as a trio 36 years later. <br /><br />*The term "gonfalon" refers to a flag or pennant, and Adams uses the phrase "pricking our gonfalon bubble" to describe the repeated success of the Chicago Cubs and their celebrated infield against their National League rivals, his beloved New York Giants. <br /><br />

Posted By: <b>dennis</b><p>evers was IMO, out of the trio the only real hall of famer, after being dumped by the cubs in 1914,he teamed with a young shortstop rabbit maranville and led a inspired boston braves to a pennant over mcgraws favored giants. then beating macks famed al champs in 4 straight.most likely the greatest underdogs to ever win a world championship in the history of major league ball. evers was the nl mvp that year.

Posted By: <b>Colt McClelland</b><p>You asked about a checklist of vintage Cubs cards . . . I can't provide that, but I recommend going for the E93's of the 3 players. Admittedly, I am an E card die-hard, but I think the poses are phenomenal, and it will be a much more rewarding challenge to get the E93's than the T206's (and a better investment IMO).
