W573 Size Question

Posted By: Kevin Cummings
The 2004 Standard Catalog lists the size of these items as 2 1/16" x 3 3/8". The Old Cardboard site says they are supposed to be 2 1/16" x 3 1/8".

Since the cards came in vertical strips and were hand cut, one might expect a variance in the lengths. But I measured my 5 last night and all are 1 7/8" wide. Since my cards were bought from 4 different sellers, it seems unlikely that either they trimmed them all to the exact same width or all bought them from a single seller who did.

If anyone else has any W573s (especially if uncut), I'd appreciate a comparison to the widths.

W573 Size Question

Posted By: brian p
I have 8 W573's. Although not a large quantity, they certainly are spread across the board when it comes to width. I have two at 1-7/8", three at 1-15/16", two at 2", and one at 2-1/4" wide. Were these cards issued in vertical strips? Some of my cards, admittedly low grade, appear to be hand cut along the sides. The monster 2-1/4" wide card has super, unnaturally wide borders (a little over 1/4" on one side, and a little over 5/16" on the other).

My guess is that they are ideally 2" wide, which is the same width as the American Caramel E120's. The ornate design measures exactly the same across as the E120's. Then again, perhaps it is possible that some of the cards were hand cut from a sheet, and also may have been issued in horizontal strips as well.

Brian

W573 Size Question

Posted By: Kevin Cummings
Since I have suspected all along that the strips might have been produced horizontally as well as vertically, the fact that you have some that are all over the lot size-wise seems to confirm my suspicion. It made no sense to me why someone would need to trim the sides of a vertically produced strip card.

I appreciate the response.

W573 Size Question

Posted By: leon
This one is 32 3/4" x 1 7/8 and is evenly cut at that length. It is defintitely off center left to right but still the same width all of the way down it. The 10 players are: Alexander, Aldridge, Flack, Grimes, Barber, Davis, Severeid, Tobin, Shocker, Gerber. The last one, Gerber, is a vertical horizontal regards
