The "series of 80" are all on slightly thicker stock than the "series of 120", but I have a few "80"s that are printed on the thinner stock. Was the set printed on two stocks? or were there sheets or something that could be hand cut?<br /><br />Does anyone out there have any experience with this? There also appears to be some variation in the size of the cards. Were all the cards issued with the American Caramel back machine cut or hand cut?<br />

Posted By: <b>Mark Macrae</b><p>From my experience, there is a considerable variance in the size of cards which turn up "outside the hobby". Series of 80, generally speaking, tend to be smaller. There are different paper stocks used as well. Some are more coarse than others. Most that I have found outside the hobby appear to have been 'machine cut', although there are others that appear to have been handcut a long time ago...with heavy patination along the edges. Watch for reprints as the E-121/E-135 cards were among the hobby's earliest counterfeits circulating in 1972. These counterfeits are now 30+ years old and are beginning to show natural aging...

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>is stupid except the one you don't ask. "Outside the hobby" commonly refers to cards that are not in current, active hobbyists, or dealers hands. Something you find in an old chest or at a flea market could be considered outside the hobby. About a year ago I bought over 700 PCL cards from a guy that inherited them from his grandfather and had never been "in" the hobby. They were in a box in a closet for over 50 years. These were considered outside the hobby.....best regards
