Cards I wish that I would not have sold....
Posted By: gary
Curious to know what cards you all have owned, and sold...only to regret selling...

I know a good profit makes me happy, but I wish I had my E93 Cobb back, and my 257 card T206 partial set that I gave up on a year ago....

Cards I wish that I would not have sold....
Posted By: John Spencer
I regret selling many but the one that still drives me into deep fits of depression was a T206 O'Hara St. Louis SGC 60. It had a wonderful deep blue background that just jumped out at you. I consigned it in a SportsCards Plus auction after David Kohler told me it would fetch top dollar. I think it went for $1100 less the consignment commission - sigh.

Posted By: davidcycleback
No one else in my family is a collector of anything, much less baseball. I once had the below 1866 silver belt buckle award. Knowing that I 'rent' memorabilia, a family member offered to buy it from me so as to keep it in the family. I incorrectly thought she was joking and sold it elsewhere.

Cards I wish that I would not have sold....
Posted By: John Spencer
Joe, yes, I did have a T206 Magie SGC 40 which I did sell but never really was that crazy about it. As much as I miss my O'Hara, and I think I must have blocked it out of my self-conscious to stop the heartache, the real sob story was a E107 Matty in pristine condition. Back in 1994, I sold my entire collection to SportsCards+ for a downpayment on a house (ridiculous reason, I know), including the jewel in the crown, the Matty. Whenever I see Kevin Struss at a show, we always mention it. I think Kevin actually regretted taking it from me.

Cards I wish that I would not have sold....
Posted By: Hal Lewis
Adam:

I know. It has the qualifications of an 8... but the centering of a 7.

BUT...

of ALL the times I have seen examples of this Jackson card...

they have ALL been off-centered in the exact same proportions as this one!

SO...

If a card was NEVER issued with perfect centering...

and EVERY example of the card is skewed 65/35 like this one...

THEN IS IT REALLY OFF-CENTERED?????

Or is it simply a perfectly centered version of a card that was unfortunately MADE like that???

Thoughts?

Cards I wish that I would not have sold....
Posted By: jamie
when i first started collecting, my dad traded some political buttons of his for a small vintage collection that included a 52 bowman mantle, a pile of t206's and t205's, and a ton of 60's stars. all of them were sold off over the years. there were two cards i really regret letting go from that- a t205 christy mathewson and a w516 babe ruth. the ruth ive since picked up thanks to a board member. still workig on the mathewson.

hal, what'd that jackson sell for? that's a real blazer of a card

Cards I wish that I would not have sold....
Posted By: Gilbert Maines
Hal: I think that your arguement regarding card centering is valid. However, if all cards were to be judged on a "this is as good as it gets" basis; graders (including collectors) would have to possess far more knowledge than we do now.
