Also, if the same multipliers were used for HOF'ers, they would be outrageous - people just aren't willing to pay that for a card which they only want it for the back. Now, if more people become like Hal, these multipliers for backs will start to increase.

Posted By: <b>JimB</b><p>True, the multipliers do not apply to HOFs like they do to common players for the reasons mentioned above. But there is a premium on rare backs with HOFs. It is hard to pin down though. It would depend on which HOF and which back. Drum, Uzit, red Hindu and maybe Broadleaf and Carolina Brights would definately bring premiums. Brown Hindu, EPDG would bring a premium, but slightly less. Cycle, Tolstoi, Amer. Beauty, perhaps, but not a big premium and maybe not much. You would need to find the right buyer.<br />JimB

Posted By: <b>Robert A</b><p>Jim.<br />You're right about finding the right buyer on this one.<br />I think it's silly to think that hall of fame players with uncommon backs are not more intriguing and attractive for some buyers.<br />I always have my eye out for them and many others have there cobbs with rare or uncommon backs stashed away.

I am one who has stashed away a handful of HOFs with rare backs and am a bit perplexed as to why they don't command more of a premium, especially since they are so hard to find if a person is actually looking for them. I am sure Hal can vouch for this. But I have always been facinated with the different T206 backs. I must admit, I am not obsessive enough to worry about factory and dist. #s. I am told there are a few collectors out there in pursuit of master T206 sets which would include all possible front and back combinations down to factory and district numbers, not simply brand names.<br />But there are limits. Though I would love to own the Cobb/Uzit that has been available for a couple of years now, 50k or 75k (I can't remember now what they are asking) is too much of a premium for me.<br />JimB

Posted By: <b>Robert A</b><p>Yeah Jim.<br />The prices can be just downright crazy, but I think that the speaker w/drum back that sold recently on ebay was a fair price and did demonstrate a premium.<br /><br />I prefer lowgrade (or at least I say prefer as an excuse because I can't afford the higher stuff)hofers with different uncommon backs. It's fun if you like the different backs to acquire a few with a "star" player on the front. <br /><br />I've heard too of collectors persuing a master set of t206 and I'm not going to say that it is not possible, but I will say that it will be very difficult to determine certain front/back combinations' existance such as the red hindus. It's hard to chase a ghost. Do blank backs count in these master sets? I don't know, but it's interesting to think about! Also, many collectors just won't budge with there prized hofers with the more rare backs...unless you really throw the dollars around. <br />robert a

Sportscards Plus had one a few years ago that I regretted not bidding on. Now it has come up again, and again I have missed it. I guess it is not in the cards for me.<br />Jim

The card was orginally placed on EBAY in raw condition, but the auction was ended early, so someone(probably from this board) purchased the card and had it graded. <br /> I have seen 4 different Speaker's with Drum backs, including the PSA 4 you mentioned from the Sports cards plus auction. I am just glad I don't collect rare backs any longer - you know, with Hal to compete with and all (that would be like the 49'ers trying to beat Philly or Pitts. in the NFL this year)!!!! Just don't start collecting caramels right yet Hal - wait until I get all the ones I am after before you start bidding!!!!!!!
