Anyone seen any of these before?
 

Posted By: <b>Rhys</b><p>I recently found a couple of items which I have never seen before and was wondering if anyone has ever seen them or can help me out. Neither is much to look at, but at least they are old.<br /><br />First is a House of David Postcard. The team cards are very common, but this is an individual player from the team which I have never seen before. It is essentially a House of David Baseball card and was published by the HOD. Player is not identified, but back looks to be early 1930's.<br /><br />Second is a small strip card type item of Rube Waddell. I was going to throw this on ebay but thought I would throw it out here first. It must date to about 1902 or so because the reverse is from Henry Altemus in Philadelphia, and Waddell only played for Philadelphia for a short time. Very generic and not really atractive but definetly vintage and definetly Waddell. Posted By: <b>john/z28jd</b><p>Julie,he knows its Waddell because it looks like Waddell but asking him if hes familiar with the sets means you didnt read his post which says hes asking for info about the card because he doesnt know what they are<br /><br />Rhys,that Waddell is scary looking,that might explain why you dont see that card around.I couldnt imagine being a player and seeing my card and allowing it to be printed if it looked like that

Posted By: <b>Rhys</b><p>Like I said, its really ugly, possibly the ugliest stripcard type thing I have ever seen, I was just wondering if anyone has seen anything like it because it looks like a generic stripcard but has to date from before 1908 which would pre-date most tobacco era cards, and would be the first strip card I know of chronologically if that is what it is.

Posted By: <b>Rhys</b><p>I did a quick search on the internet and found that Henry Altemus was a famous book-binder in Philadelphia in the late 19th and early 20th century, during the time Waddell played for the A's. Perhaps these are little bookmarks made by them, or some promotional tool? Who knows.
