Posted By: <b>effe</b><p>Hi, I have the opportunity to pick up a Piedmont Cigarettes folding chair. The Piedmont ad is on the backrest. How much do these normally go for? Do I have to watch out for reproductions?

Posted By: <b>canjond</b><p>The back should have a double-sided blue porcelin (sp?) sign advertisement. make sure the porcelin is in good condition. Also, the chair was natural color - often these are re-painted. NICE condition ones sell for $400-$500. Very rarely have I seen them go higher. I've bought off condition ones for anywhere between $100-$300 before... Just my opinion.

Posted By: <b>canjond</b><p>I don't know how other's feel but I don't think they are all too rare... I've owned probably 5 of them over the last couple years. Also, I think they pop up on eBay quite frequently. Again, my opinion but I just don't find them to be difficult to locate.

Reproduction or Original?
 

A local auction. I was thinking about bidding until I read here about repo's being made in the 1980's.

Are the two chairs reproductions?

I am not a Peidmont chair guy but the description says the sign on the chair is porcelain. I can't imagine a repro being that expensive material but again, I am not a chair guy, except when sitting in them. :)

I have one and I feel pretty confident that both of those chairs are original. Not sure about the green paint job as I've not seen many with that look. Agree with Leon's comment about porcelain. My center piece on mine is porcelain and very nicely made. They must have made a LOT of them back in the day. Think I paid in the $100 +/- range for mine 10-15 years ago. It is pretty sturdy as well. Will hold me up...........

They are inexpensive and can be used, as well as make a nice display. Here is mine, and it has the writing on the side.

I have four of these chairs. One had green paint on it but I stripped it off. It had the stenciled writing on the legs underneath the paint.
