I'm not as stupid as many of you think and I still don't
Posted By: warshawlaw
comprehend the reasoning behind the Beckett grading scheme. I read the interview in SCD this week with a Beckett poobah (apparently SGC is donating a page of fluff interview to each of the major grading companies)--3 types of grading with three sets of standards and three potential outcomes for the same card? WTF is that? Which is the "good" Beckett? Which is the "bad" one? Does anyone use their service anymore?

"I'm no slouch myself"
"Don't sell yourself short, judge; you're a heck of a slouch"
--Caddyshack. RIP Rodney.

Posted By: dennis
this may help---it seems they have 3 different slab services--1 for newer cards BG ---one for vintage BVG---one that is really ??? BCCG,that just grades ie...BCCG 8= EX OR BETTER the BCCG IS useless,THE bvg is tough on 50's/60's but i've heard rumor they miss trimmed cards on pre war, and BG who cares about slabbing new cards aren't they all nm/mint anyway. http://www.beckett.com/grading/services.asp

Posted By: PASJD
It's like anything else in life where you get what you pay for. If you are sued in a lawsuit, you can hire a $200/hr lawyer, a $300 or a $400. Same lawsuit, three different levels of service and competence, three different possible outcomes. Now having said that, it is one of the dumbest-***ed ideas I have ever read about, but what do you expect from Beckett?

Posted By: hankron
I put into two categories one panel comic strips that make me laugh: one that I could have thought up and one that I could never have thought up in a hundred years (some of the Far Sides for example). I would never have thought up BCCG's grading system.
