I agree that it's far from the most attractive pre-war set, but at least it's got a photo of the player on it (albeit small) as opposed to just a crude drawing. I don't think W516's are so bad, but W515's can be pretty ugly. I have some W515's and they can be some pretty ugly cards, but that being said, I think all pre-war cards are beautiful...

Posted By: <b>john/z28jd</b><p>One reason people buy them is they are a cheap way to get cards of players certain people cant afford.Theres 19 hall of famers in the set out of 48 cards so that right there is a good reason to collect them.<br /><br />I assume theres people who play alot of cards too,and collect baseball cards,so this set would really appeal to them

I think they are kinda quaint."<br /><br />All I know is I depend on the old cardboard site to find out (at least) what the value of your average common card is for any given strip card series, and I watch ebay to guage the range that the star/HOF players sell for. I guess the prices determined are all market driven, but very often I can't see any rhyme or reason why one issue is more valuable then another. It may have to do with how available they are, whether its a photo or drawing, but often I'm surprised. I do know that almost any strip card that's in a holder with a high grade commands significantly more money than anything else in the strip card world, and that (as it would stand to reason) Ruth, Cobb and Gherig are more expensive then any other player (oh yeah, throw Buck Weaver in there too), but then you can also get Hornsby, Speaker and any other major hall of famer for that's not one of those players for next to nothing. It's quite puzzling to me.<br /><br />BTW, I thought the drawing cards were kind of quaint too until I got some. Now I think they're kind of ugly. Don't get me wrong, I still like them, but they can't hold a candle to the photo issues IMHO.

Posted By: <b>Gilbert Maines</b><p>Gary: In addition to the old cardboard site (which is a good resource), the old baseball cards site maintains a "virtual library" which shows the individual cards in each drawn strip card set. Actually - and many other sets. I am not sure this library is complete, but for the sets included, it certainly appears to be. They also show uncut sheets for many sets.
