Helmar Stamps - T332

Posted By: runscott
Does anyone know the history of these? Were they issued in the glassine envelopes within a cig pack? ...or mail-aways?

They seem to almost always be mis-cut or have small bits of one or more corners missing. I have three along with the envelopes they were supposedly issued with. One envelope matches Mr. Lemke's catalog description, but another has no design and only one line of print "Factory No. 30,2nd Dist.,N.Y.". The other has no design, but has two print lines: "S. ANARCYROS,N.Y." and "Factory No. 7,3rd Dist.,N.Y."

Helmar Stamps - T332

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
Hi Scott:

The correct envelope that the Helmar Stamps came in are the ones with the slogan: "Philately The Popular European Rage." Frequently, EBAY sellers attempt to sell a generic Helmar glassine envelope which is bogus. See page 97 in Lew Lipset's Volume 3 for a picture which matches the image seen in the first link posted. I happen to have 4 Helmars, and a sample envelope as well. Here's scans of three of the stamps.

Patrick
