Posted By: GoSoxBoSox
Hi Bruce,

If I have the cards that you're asking for I'm sitting here wondering why I should be motivated to sell to you rather than sell them at auction or to someone that is willing to pay above market for these rare items?

You're only offering "market rate". That's not a very attractive offer considering anybody can get the "market rate" just about any time they want. Besides the fact that the market rate probably stinks right now as compared to what most people probably paid to buy these cards in the first place. It is in my case anyway. I'm not even sure what one might call a "market rate" for cards that are this hard to come by?

Anyway, I'm just wondering if I'm misinterpreting why I should give you the chance to buy my cards rather than go in a different direction?

Thanks for your answer.

Tom

I'm sure that you're referring to yourself and others, but you don't have to drag them into all of our correspondence. If you say "I" instead of we, we (everyone who reads this board)can just assume that some other people you know share the same opinion.
Posted By: GoSoxBoSox
I see your point on the 17.5% but not on the other 10%. I don't know many consignors that pay the 10% and I know I have never paid it. I guess those that want to sell will have to be the judge because it all comes down to what you consider the "market rate" to be. The 17.5% won't mean much if that rate can't be agreed.

Posted By: Rhys
I dont mind Bruce and have done some transactions with him the past so this comment is for informational purposes only and in no way attacking him. However, if you have an ultra high grade card from one of those sets, not only are you talking 0% consigners fee, but you can negotiate a cut off the buyers end as well with many auction houses so you should end up with maybe 10%-12% total off the sales price with 5% or so of the buyers premium coming back into your pocket. So instead of a 27% theoritical "cut" off your cards calue, the reality is more like 10%-12% or even more depending on the card itself and the value of it.

Rhys Yeakley

Posted By: J Levine
And just to be clear...even though Bruce will pay market price, you are limiting yourself to one buyer here. Often large auction houses attract people that this board does not. If it is the right card and rare enough, a bigger auction house might be the way to go to get more exposure and competition. Remember, Bruce is bidding against himself here...in an auction you may have two whales bid up the card higher than Bruce is offering and your 10-15% will not matter.

Joshua

Posted By: leon
Dave- how can there be a market price on something that never comes to market? I doubt this is considered high grade but even it would probably be close to 10k...

Posted By: GoSoxBoSox
Thanks guys for helping to make my point. The only way to know the market rate for the cards Bruce is asking for is to put the items up for bid.

So really Bruce should be offering to blow people away with offers they couldn't refuse if he expects anyone to sell such rare items straight to him. Regardless of the 0-15% he "might" save them. I know I'd take my chances going to market anyday of the week.
